-Jordan Todman ran for 130 yards, including a 43-yard TD, and
also returned a kickoff 96 yards for a score as Connecticut beat
Notre Dame 33-30 in two overtimes.
-Danario Alexander had 11 catches for 173 yards and a 63-yard
score in Missouri's 34-24 victory over Iowa State. Alexander
broke Mizzou records for single-season and career yardage set by
Jeremy Maclin last season.
-Case Keenum riddled a feeble Memphis team for 405 yards and
five touchdowns in a bit more than two quarters as No. 24
Houston won 55-14. Keenum set a school record for touchdown
passes with 94, surpassing David Klingler (91).
-Jacory Harris threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns as No. 21
Miami defeated Duke 34-16.
-Ryan Mallett threw for 313 yards and five touchdowns to lead
Arkansas over Mississippi State 42-21. Mallett's final touchdown
pass was his 28th of the season, a school record.
ONE FOR JAZZ=
After three tough losses, Connecticut finally won one for slain
teammate Jasper Howard. Andre Dixon scored on a 4-yard run in
the second overtime to give the Huskies a 33-30 victory at Notre
Dame, their first win since Howard was stabbed to death. "Jazz,
this is for you," coach Randy Edsall said, referring to Howard
by his nickname. "Best win we have ever had."
DIAL 'M' FOR MOPERY=
Behind Tate Forcier's five turnovers, Michigan lost to No. 9
Ohio State 21-10 in Ann Arbor, its sixth straight loss to the
Buckeyes. Forcier threw four interceptions and fumbled in his
own end zone, setting up an Ohio State score. The Wolverines
started the season 4-0 but lost seven of their last eight,
defeating only Delaware State after September. The wipeout came
after a school-record nine-loss season in Rich Rodriguez's debut
year with college football's winningest program. Michigan has
had consecutive losing seasons for the first time since
1962-63.
FIGHT ON, NEXT YEAR=
USC's seven-year reign atop the Pac-10 ended quietly. The
22nd-ranked Trojans, who had Saturday off, were officially
eliminated when No. 20 Oregon State finished off a 42-10 victory
over Washington State in Pullman, Wash.
PARTY IN HARVARD YARD=
Collier Winters threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns as
Harvard came back from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat
rival Yale 14-10, the Crimson's eighth win against the Bulldogs
in the last nine years.
DEFENSE? WHAT DEFENSE?=
Zach Amedro threw for 540 yards and six touchdowns, Kevon
Calhoun ran for 173 yards and four more scores, and West Liberty
(W.Va) beat Edinboro (Pa.) 84-63 in the Division II playoffs.
The teams combined for 1,394 yards of offense, breaking the
division record of 1,369 set in Chadron State's 76-73
triple-overtime win over Abilene Christian on Nov. 23, 2007.
Their combined 1,170 yards passing broke the mark of 1,065 set
by Western New Mexico and West Texas A&M on Oct. 8, 1994.
Edinboro QB Trevor Harris had a playoff-record 630 yards passing
and seven total TDs.
HONORING THE HEROES=
Fort Hood's first responders and the 13 people who died in the
Nov. 5 shootings were honored before Army's game at North Texas.
A moment of silence was observed for those who were killed, and
the first responders were recognized before the game, played 185
miles north of the Army post. Fort Hood base commander Lt. Gen.
Robert Cone participated in the ceremonial coin toss.
STRIKE UP THE BAND=
Clemson's band was on the field performing its pregame show when
the 18th-ranked Tigers clinched the ACC's Atlantic Division and
their first trip to the conference's title game. The Tigers'
kickoff against Virginia was about 20 minutes away when Boston
College lost to North Carolina 31-13. Clemson will play Coastal
Division winner Georgia Tech on Dec. 5.
RIP, UGA VII=
Georgia planned to place a wreath over Uga VII's empty doghouse
when the Bulldogs met Kentucky on Saturday night in Sanford
Stadium. The white English bulldog died Thursday of
heart-related causes before he could finish his second season as
mascot. Sonny Seiler, whose family owns the line of Uga mascots,
said no permanent replacement will be chosen before next
year.
QUOTE, UNQUOTE=
"I'm glad I'm on this side." -Ohio State quarterback Terrelle
Pryor, who chose the Buckeyes over Michigan as a prep star.
FOURTH AND INCHES=
The national title race is heating up. The top two teams in the
BCS standings sweated out victories by a combined 107-3 - No. 1
Florida routed Florida International 62-3 and second-ranked
Alabama drilled lower-division Chattanooga 45-0. The Gators and
Crimson Tide return to the big time next week, when Alabama
meets Auburn on Friday and the Gators face Florida State on
Saturday. The Gators likely will be without starting linebacker
A.J. Jones, who injured the medial collateral ligament in his
right knee. ... Speaking of FSU, the Seminoles needed a 3-yard
run by freshman Lonnie Pryor with 32 seconds left to avoid one
of the most embarrassing defeats in Bobby Bowden's career.
Trading their gold helmets for a darker version, the Seminoles
(6-5, 4-4 ACC) rallied to beat 2-9 Maryland 29-26 in Tallahassee
to become bowl eligible for the 28th straight year. ... No. 15
Iowa (10-2, 6-2 Big Ten) stayed in BCS bowl contention with a
12-0 victory over Minnesota. It was only fitting that they
awarded a hog - the Floyd of Rosedale - after Iowa and Minnesota
combined for more punts (17) than points, and were only 5 of 33
on third-down conversions. "It's great to have the pig with us,"
Iowa receiver Marvin McNutt said.
